Science Week

March 17th, 2017

Wow! What a week we have had! Full of Science. We were extremely lucky to have a visit from a ‘Science Boffin’ for assembly on Wednesday, it was great fun and she was really funny!

One of our experiments this week involved inflating a balloon using the gas produced when you mix vinegar with baking powder. Can you remember what the name of the gas was?

We also made our own lava lamps. We mixed water with oil, which was really strange because the oil sat on top of the water. Can you remember why? We then added red food colouring and dropped in an Alka Seltza. This caused the bubbles to pass through the oil, looking like a lava lamp!

Finally, as a mix of Science and Maths, we made pancakes! A huge thank you to Adam and Wyatt’s mummy’s who came to help. W

e couldn’t have done it without them!

Potion making

March 9th, 2017

This week in Maths we have been looking at capacity and measuring liquids using milliliters. Our challenge was to create potions following the ingredient list. We had green liquid, red liquid, blue liquid and clear liquid. We had to measure each liquid out according to the instructions. Can you create your own potion and record the measurements?

Multiskills

March 2nd, 2017

Yesterday we had a really fun day. Some of us went to a multi skills event and took part in lots of different sports activities. We did yoga, dancing, ball skills, basketball, tennis and also had a go at an obstacle course. Everyone that went took part and had a really good time.

Wednesday 1st March

March 2nd, 2017

On Wednesday, when there was only half of Year 1 at school, our learning was interrupted at 9.30am by another package from the postman. This time we had two packages to open and a letter. The letter stated that Jack had returned from his holiday and cut the beanstalk down, just as the postman was posting the Giants letters. Meaning, he was now stick up in the clouds. He asked us to plan, make and test something which would get him down safely. After much deliberation we decided that parachutes would be the safest way for him to come down. In pairs we planned our design, made the parachutes and tested them by dropping them off the top of the climbing frame. We had a really fun day and we were so pleased to be able to help the postman solve his problem!

The Jolly Postman

February 27th, 2017

Last week we received an exciting package. The office ladies knocked on our classroom door around 11 am to tell us we had a delivered! How exciting!! After much deliberation over what it could be and who it could be from we finally opened it. Here we then found the letter from the Jolly Postman himself explaining that he would like to share what he does for his job and share his favourite book.

What is your favourite part of the story? Which character is your favourite? If you could deliver a package, what would you deliver and who to?

Trip to the shop

January 12th, 2017

In Maths we have been learning all about money and today we took a short walk to Iceland. We were in groups of 5 and we had £1 to spend. The challenge was to buy something healthy. We each had an important job in the process of buying our item. Comment below on what your job was, how much did your item cost and did you enjoy yourself?

London Aquarium 10.01.17

January 11th, 2017

On Tuesday 1S visited the London Aquarium where we had the most amazing time. I am going to let the children tell you what they saw, their favourite fish and all about their day. I have however attached some photos. I apologise, but it is very dark in the aquarium so the photos are not very good quality. Write a comment about what the children tell you about their trip!

Christmas!

December 19th, 2016

We have had lots of celebrations these past few weeks. Father Christmas came to visit us, we had a school disco, Christmas lunch and many more. We even made our own snowman biscuits on ‘Christmas Jumper Day!’ Have a look at the photos to see all the fun we had.

Cinderella Ball

December 12th, 2016

On Friday afternoon we had a Year 1 Cinderella Ball. We had arts and crafts, Abba and Christmas dancing and a fruit tail to top it all off! What a great way to end our hard work for the fantastic CinderAbba performance. Well Done Year 1!!!
